Between Israel and Lebanon

2008 September 6

An Israeli bereaved mother, Zohar Schechtman writes simply for the Common Ground News Service about her agreement to meet a another grieving mother – from Lebanon. They met along the border where both of their sons has perished, conversing amicably in Hebrew. Against both of their expectations, they found that they had much in common beyond their respective losses, in aspects as mundane as daily routine. Schechtman walked away with a new perspective: “a human being is a human being…it has nothing to do with gender, race or religion.”
